Bio
I’m Fraser Harkness, an architectural and spatial designer and the founder of Harkness Design Studios, a York-based creative design studio working across hospitality, retail, entertainment and immersive environments.
My background is in architecture, 3D design and visualisation, and I’ve worked on projects ranging from hospitality and retail interiors to family entertainment venues, exhibitions and experiential spaces. Through Harkness Design Studios, I work with businesses, agencies and other creative studios to develop ideas from early concepts through to detailed spatial design, 3D modelling, visualisation and presentation material.
A big part of what I enjoy is taking an idea that might only exist as a sketch, brand or conversation and turning it into a space people can actually understand and experience. I’m particularly interested in projects where architecture, interiors, storytelling, branding and entertainment overlap.
HDS is based in York but works remotely with clients and collaborators across the UK and internationally. I’m also open to supporting other studios and agencies as an external design resource, whether that’s for a complete project or additional 3D, CAD, visualisation and design capacity when workloads increase.
Outside of the studio, I’m also an illustrator and spend a lot of my spare time drawing, particularly character, film, horror and pop-culture inspired artwork.
I joined York Creatives to become more involved with the creative community around me, meet other designers and businesses, collaborate across disciplines and hopefully work on more projects here in York as the studio continues to grow.
Clients
Scruffy Dog Creative Group, Keyway GS, North East Joiners, Courtside Club Miami, Exhibition & Interiors, Pono, plus projects for venues including the historic Sebastiani Theatre in California.
